When the Japanese mend broken objects, they aggrandize the damage by filling the cracks with gold. They believe that when something’s suffered damage and has a history it becomes more beautiful. {Barbara Bloom}

Weathering the storm mindfully

Join us on this special Soul Spa and feel the magic of the Hebridean islands of Mull and Iona! We are delighted to work with Dr Avinash Bansode on this retreat whose particular passion is teaching a kind and mindful approach to living. You can find out more on Avinash here. He defines mindfulness as a kind way of being in the here and now. This means being kind to others, all creatures and the planet, but also and especially to yourself. Self care is such an important part of the healing process and you don’t need to have a background in mindfulness, Buddhism or meditation to benefit from this retreat. The teachings and exercises will help you move forward through your experience of loss while enjoying beautiful nature, creativity, inspiring company and great food.

Mull and Iona ~ Reconnect with nature

Mull (Scottish Gaelic: Muile, pronounced [ˈmulʲə]) is the second largest island of the Inner Hebrides (after Skye), off the west coast of Scotland. It has an incredible coastline of around 300 miles and an area of 338 square miles. The highest mountain on Mull is Ben More, with 966 metres the highest mountain in the area. Winter on Mull is beautiful and dramatic with iconic wildlife, dynamic ever-changing landscapes and some of the darkest skies in Europe. Angry seas, moody skies and constantly changing light patterns make us feel closer to the elements. For information on how to get to there please check out the practicalities pages.

Weather allowing, an excursion to the tiny isle of Iona with its spiritual feel and lovely white beaches will be a must! Just 3 miles long and 1 mile wide, Iona is known as one of the most iconic and sacred places in the world, where the beauty and diversity of the land and seascapes – even the quality of the light – have been sources of inspiration for generations of travellers, artists and spiritual seekers.

As a special treat, we’ll also take you on an unforgettable Stargazing Experience, led by Nature Scotland (click here to watch a short video about it).

Accommodation & catering

Our accommodation is at Killiechronan Estate in Mull. The house is peacefully and centrally located next to Loch na Keal on the west coast of the island. It has the cosy character of a lived in, traditional Scottish house – with fireplaces, individually decorated bedrooms (all en-suite) and beautiful views.

We may have the occasional meal out but most meals will be freshly prepared in-house by Alison or Lesley. The focus is on delicious as well as healthy, with high quality ingredients, where possible organic and locally sourced. The range of food includes some things you wouldn’t find in your standard hotel menu – such as freshly baked waffles with quark and fresh berries for breakfast. Oh, and of course I need to mention cake!

Ute will compose some extra special smoothies for you and we’ll definitely bring a supply of caliente (really thick hot chocolate with chilli) for you to enjoy by the fire. Good coffee and a selection of black and herbal teas, as well as soft drinks will be available throughout. You can also help yourself to wine and prosecco (in moderation). Enjoyment is good for you. We will, of course, respect and accommodate any food intolerances and dietary preferences as much as we can (info to be provided at the time of booking).

Feelgood programme

Enjoying and being in the here and now, with all this brings along, are at the core of all Soul Spas. This one is a bit more structured than the others as it includes mindfulness exercises and teachings led by Avinash. Each day has a theme we’ll explore: body awareness / breath awareness / heart awareness / mind awareness. A daily schedule may be:

  • Mindful moves and morning meditation
  • Breakfast
  • Mindfulness teaching
  • Island tour incl. walk and visit to Calgary Bay and Calgary art trail
  • Coffee/ tea & cake, followed by free time
  • Dinner
  • Reflect / relax / chat

There will still be plenty time to relax and most days have creative ideas and activities built in.

The little things

Fire & Rain soul spas have been planned and designed with much attention to detail to make everything as enjoyable as possible for our guests. We keep adding things and ideas whenever we come across something inspiring or useful, such as a journal to scribble down your thoughts and notes during your stay. And you don’t have to worry if you’ve forgotten our toothbrush or body lotion. Our hospitality basket will be filled with useful things, just in case.

    1. Dear Susan, £1590 is for two people sharing a twin room. For single occupancy of a double/twin room it’s £1740. Feel free to give me a call on 07884966165 if you’d like to have a chat about this soul spa. Best wishes Ute x
