The healing power of even the most microscopic exchange with someone who knows in a flash precisely what you’re talking about because she experienced that thing too cannot be overestimated. {Cheryl Strayed}

As are all of our soul spas, this week is all about self-care and re-treating yourself. Yoga, walks, delicious food and drink, creative writing, a herbalist session and lots of other creative things are on offer whenever you feel like it. Our beautiful venue is right on the beach and the Fife Coastal Path. Think picnics on the beach, sunny yoga in the lush private garden, collecting pebbles, learning how to make your own natural skincare, and much more.
Location & accommodation
Our venue Cardy Net House is right on the beach in the picturesque village Lower Largo in the East Neuk of Fife on the Scottish East Coast. It’s just 20 minutes from St Andrews and Anstruther, and you can walk along the Fife Coastal Path and explore the fishing villages of Elie, St Monan’s, Pittenweem and many more stunning places on the Fife coast. Lower Largo is just over an hour’s drive from Edinburgh Airport and for information on how to get to there please check out the practicalities pages.
Cardy Net House, is a stunning modern seaside holiday home, set within a beautiful secluded private garden overlooking the sea. It used to be a factory to make nets for the herring industry and was built in 1867 by David Gillies, a descendant of Alexander Selkirk who spent 5 years as a castaway on a Pacific Island and became the inspiration for Daniel Defoe’s ‘Robinson Crusoe’.
The current owners have reopened the factory for the first time in 120 years, retaining the large bright open qualities. The house opens directly onto a timber deck terrace, with fantastic views overlooking the beach and sea beyond, and beautiful private gardens to the side. It has a large central living space with an open fire and a grand piano,

Feelgood programme full of tasty treats
Enjoying and being in the here and now, with all this brings along, are at the core of all Soul Spas. As usual, everything in the programme is optional – you can do your own thing or join in as you like:
Hiking – walking allows us to really see, feel and smell the stunning environments of this coastal area. The group will venture out to explore coastal paths and villages. Walks last 1-3 hours.
Reflection and mindfulness – mindfulness is a kind way of being in the here and now. The advice grieving people often get is to just take one day at a time. And it makes sense. But sometimes you can only bear looking at one hour at a time, or even one minute. Mindfulness and living in the moment isn’t a complicated science but very simple, really. We will offer some simple tools and exercises to help you lean into this approach to living. We’ll also bring along our library of books and resources for you to rummage around in.

Yoga – yoga has helped us on our own journeys and the soul spa location is ideal for some mindful exercise. Join us on the mat in the mornings when Sarah, a qualified yoga teacher, will guide us through feelgood moves to wake up the body. Mats and blankets will be available. None of the sessions require previous experience and you don’t have to be particularly flexible or anything.
Creative writing & other creative stuff – you don’t need to be an artist and even if you think you have no creative bone in your body we can guarantee that you’ll be enjoying some or all of the creative activities we’ve built into the break. The beach alone offers beautiful materials, and we’ll bring along others so you can create memory objects and more. There will be creative writing sessions and we’ve quite a few other tasty surprises in store for you to get your creative juices flowing.
Herb walk and skincare workshop – Scottish herbologist Anna Canning will take us on a herb walk and inspire us to engage our five senses to discover what grows nearby. Back at the house she will then lead a workshop on making our own natural skincare treats.
Very importantly, there will be plenty time to relax and drift….

The little things
Fire & Rain soul spas have been planned and designed with much attention to detail to make everything as enjoyable as possible for our guests. We keep adding things and ideas whenever we come across something inspiring or useful, such as a journal to scribble down your thoughts and notes during your stay. And you don’t have to worry if you’ve forgotten our toothbrush or body lotion. Our hospitality basket will be filled with useful things, just in case.
